„Sol Daniel Kim, the Korean born in Vienna in 1990, paid homage to Dvorák's B-minor concerto (1896) with romantic, but restrained mourning (love-theme in the Adagio) and also mastered the passages in the highest position and the most difficult double stops.“  were the critics of the „Kleine Zeitung“, when the former student of the cellist and conductor Heinrich Schiff performed the famous Cello concerto of A. Dvorák in the Stefaniensaal of the Musikverein Graz at the Styriarte Festival in Austria.

The connection to music was established through his mother and Opera singer Choon-Ae Kim and at the age of six he decided to go down the path of a cellist, only to be accepted as a young student at the age of 9 at the University of music and performing Arts Vienna.

Recently he performed with Gautier Capuçon together at the Fondation Louis Vuitton being featured on medici.tv and performed also at the festival InselKonzerte auf Herrenchiemsee. 
He was also invited to teach a masterclass at the festival „Musikalischer Sommer im Ostfriesland“.

Currently based in Berlin, he is not only active as a soloist and passionate chamber musician, but decided to found the Duoproject CelloGayageum in 2016 with the Korean Gayageum (traditional Korean Zither) player Dayoung Yoon. This project symbolizes the musical and cultural unity between the west and far east.

As a soloist, he played with orchestras such as the Grazer Philharmoniker, recreation - Grosses Orchester Graz, Baden-Baden Philharmonic and the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz performing in famous concert halls such as the Stefaniensaal of the Musikverein Graz, the Auditorium of the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris and the Schubert Hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus, where he gave his debut recital in 2009. 

In 2008, he was the representative for Austria in the Eurovision Young Musicians competition and was the first prizewinner in the contest Gradus ad Parnassum 2011 and 3rd prize winner at the 48th international instrumental competition Markneukirchen. 

He was a member of the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra in 2007, where he performed with renowned conductors and soloists such as Zubin Metha, Esa Pekka Salonen, Anne Sophie Mutter and Lang Lang. He was also a member of the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Broadcasting Station (Bayerischer Rundfunk BR) for the season 2014/15. 

He worked and got his musical education with renown teachers such as Valentin Erben (young student), Heinrich Schiff (Bachelor), Jens Peter Maintz (Master) and Danjulo Ishizaka (Konzertexamen), and completed all his studies with distinction. Most recently, he was a student of Gautier Capuçon as part of the „Classe d'excellence de violoncelle" in 2016/17. He also participated in numerous master classes with David Geringas, Gary Hoffmann, Frans Helmerson, Anner Bylsma and Wolfgang Boettcher. 

From 2004 to 2010 he was a scholarship holder of the Rostropovich Cello Foundation of the Kronberg Academy and was given a cello by Jon van Kouwenhoven. 

He is currently playing on an instrument from 1825 by Lorenz Mollenberg from Stockholm, which is made available to him by a generous sponsor.
